DESCRIPTION:We are looking for local artists to display and sell their work through the month of February! Bring in your original artwork depicting the theme of winter\, either literally or figuratively\, in any media including photography\, painting\, drawing\, collage\, fabric\, mixed media\, etc. \nDrop off dates: Friday\, February 1st\, 10-6:30 or Saturday\, February 2nd\, 10-5 \nWork will be on display February 5-28\, 2019. \nA meet the artists reception will take place on Saturday\, February 9th\, 2-4 p.m. All artists\, family\, friends and the public are invited to attend. \nRequirements: All work must be framed or ready to hang\, preferably with a wire\, and must be no larger than 16″X20″ including any framing or matting. Artists may bring up to 2 pieces for consideration. Due to space limitations\, not all work may be hung. There is no submission fee\, however a 25% commission will be taken on any sales during the month. DESCRIPTION:Photography featuring landscapes\, black & white\, textures & a different view of life by Andy Mihail. \nJoin us for a meet and greet with the artist on Saturday\, January 12th from 2-4 p.m. with light refreshments. \nArtist’s statement: Photography has always been a part of my life. From the little 110 camera I received as a present in the early 80s\, to the DSLRs I use today. High school provided me with a very wacky\, out of the box thinker for a photography teacher\, whom I credit for letting me see the world a little bit differently. My eye wanders to many different things to shoot\, but those high school years shooting black & white film has taught me to love leading lines & textures. I love a rusty car & and peeling paint on an old building! Being a great influence\, Ansel Adams taught me to search out landscapes. I love catching a dramatic sky\, morning mists or a firey sunrise! Pops of color & finding the “slices of life” among our everyday existence is what you can also find in my work. \nI grew up in Indiana\, moving to Massachusetts just under 20 years ago. Married to an amazing woman & father to a teen daughter\, I spend my spare time shooting\, reading & building plastic model kits. As an avid geek\, I also love to hang with my geeky “MA clan”\, play Dungeons & Dragons\, board games & selling home made & re-purposed items at Comicons. I credit my wife\, Kymm\, with kicking me in the tush to get out there & start selling my photography.

SUMMARY:Best in Show-Paintings by Annie Spear
DESCRIPTION:December’s art show will feature whimsical animal paintings by Annie Spear. \nA meet the artist reception will take place on Saturday\, December 8th from 2-4 p.m. with light refreshments. Free and open to the public. \nAnnie started oil painting at a very young age. She received a degree in Auto Body and enjoyed painting cars. By twenty one she became a union steelworker painting industrial equipment. Never afraid to color outside the lines\, in her own time she painted everything from rooms to houses. She even bought an old Victorian and spent years painting\, wallpapering and yes\, rearranging the furniture in all 15 rooms of it. \nAnnie had heart failure unexpectedly at the age of thirty two. She was the sixty sixth person ever to be diagnosed with a very rare heart disease called Giant Cell Myocarditis. The odds of survival were five years with a transplant likely in the first year.  The last eight years she has had five different major organ failures and eight different potentially fatal diagnoses even spent a summer in a coma. Eventually she was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus. Not able to work or get around well she decided to start painting on canvas again. Painting is a huge part of her healing.  Her amazing faith and positive attitude is the only explanation of how she survived. Her hope is that her paintings make people laugh. Her goal is to add humor to fine art\, a rare combination. \nShe will tell you that having her world turned upside down is the best thing that has happened to her. “It’s as if God enjoys frequently rearranging the furniture of my life.” Annie lives at home with her husband Jeffrey and their beloved kitty named Ethel Merman.

A meet the artist reception will take place on Saturday\, August 11th\, 2-4 p.m. with light refreshments. Free. \nArtist’s Statement: There are a variety of topics that inspires K. Monét’s collection as a whole but most of all it is heavily influenced by the night. At night all is dark except the moon and stars that shine brightly in the sky. They act as guidance and comfort in dark times thus symbolizing the hope that life has to offer us in order to persevere through any situation. Instead of looking at the negative side of dark times\, she wants the viewer to stay in a mindset of calmness and self-reflection. Through careful selection of the colors and mediums ranging from acrylic paint to ink used\, she creates these serene yet mysterious sceneries.

SUMMARY:OJ Memorial Photo Walks Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:This is an exhibit honoring Detective Cindy Johnson and Officer Michael Lee\, both Bartlett High School alumni who dedicated their lives serving the town of Webster. Bartlett students\, teachers and police officers walked around town and photographed some of the wonderful things that make the town special. Photo walks included the Perryville Trace\, Winter Wonderland\, Bartlett Empty Bowls and the French River Park’s Summer Concert Series. The exhibition works to capture OJ’s love of art\, nature\, the town of Webster and its people. DESCRIPTION:Drawing by Kaylah Brace\nDrawings\, paintings and film stills by Kaylah Brace will be on display June 1-30 with its main focus on women\, nature and expressive emotion. For more information call 508-949-6232. \nArtist Statement:  \nMy work gives a voice to misperceptions of raw emotions\, all represented through various women and nature. Depictions of watercolor realism and elements of line and texture showcase both the struggles and growth an individual undergoes throughout life. I also have been exploring the field of film photography\, capturing portraits of women and nature. Each photo is intended to capture simplicity and expression. My art is meant to reflect different interpretations of women intertwined with nature and how they coexist with each other. \nKaylah is currently attending Quinebaug Valley Community College in Danielson\, CT pursuing a visual arts degree and hopes to obtain her bachelors degree in Art Therapy. She passionately dreams of turning her ability to help others create and grow into a reality\, making an everyday difference in a creative light.

DESCRIPTION:A Journey Within Every Step: Images for a More Mindful Life\, photography by Christian Leatham will be on display and for sale April 3-28\, 2018. A meet the artist reception will take place on Saturday\, April 7th from 1-3 p.m. Free and open the public with light refreshments. Gallery hours: Tuesday-Friday 10-6:30\, Saturday 10-5. For more information call 508-949-6232. \nArtist’s statement: A Journey Within Every Step was born of a love of living in the moment and experiencing life mindfully. Armed with just a cell phone and an admiration for nature around me\, I quickly found that if I stopped for just a moment and allowed the environment to wrap itself around me\, colors popped\, skies became alive with fiery brilliance\, and typically ignored things such as leaves\, branches\, clouds\, and streams became miracles dancing on earth’s stage. Many of my pieces are macro views of bright flowering petals or of blades of grass.. Look closer and see the life\, the veins\, the morning dew gently traveling its path back down to nourish the earth. Feel each image’s character; and become enveloped in the evening’s sunset\, with golds\, oranges\, and bright pinks. \nThe philosopher Lao Tzu stated that “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” I personally believe that if we take that thought a bit further\, and live more mindfully in each moment\, then within each step we can experience life’s journey. It is my hopes that my images will remind you to slow down and become one with nature and all that surrounds you. \nChristian is a local work-from-home dad\, born and raised here in Webster. After a long term stint in Boston\, then Virginia Beach followed by the hustle and excitement of New York City\, he returned to his hometown to raise his children. You will often find him running the streets far too early before sunrise\, enjoying the peace of the waterfall down at Perryville Trace\, or exploring nature’s paths breathing in the fresh forest air.

Gallery hours: Tuesday-Friday 10-6:30\, Saturday 10-5. Call 508-949-6232 for more information. \nAmy Finkel is a stay-at-home mom to 4 1/2 year-old twin girls. She started taking photos on day trips with her daughters\, and she continues to do so. She considers herself a “mother-nature appreciator\,” taking pictures of flowers\, butterflies\, and other nature scenes. This is her second time displaying her pictures at Booklover’s Gourmet. She says taking photos brings her peace\, and it reminds her to be in the moment. She hopes others can find joy in her pictures.
