SUMMARY:World War II Massachusetts Book Talk with James Parr
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this free event! Signed copies of the book will be available for purchase. \nOver 500\,000 Massachusetts residents answered the call to military duty in the Second World War\, while the rest of the state’s citizens fought the war on the home front. Everyone in the family\, including pets\, found creative and essential ways to contribute. \nThousands worked in factories\, volunteered for Civil Defense\, watched for enemy aircraft\, and took part in salvage collections and bond drives\, all while dealing with rationing\, blackouts\, rumors and a host of other wartime inconveniences. And while thousands of service members left to fight overseas\, the Bay State also welcomed thousands more to serve on its military bases that were such an important part of our nation’s defense. \nAuthor James Parr reveals the stories of these brave and dedicated citizens–from the famous to the ordinary–as they faced wartime challenges. \nJames L. Parr taught elementary school for thirty-four years before retiring in June 2022. He is a longtime volunteer at several local historical organizations and community theater groups. This is Jim’s fourth book for The History Press

Filled with true tales from my life both in and out of the hospital\, “When Being a Nurse Was Fun” will cause you to laugh\, and may also make you cry. \nAbout the Author: Raised in South Deerfield\, Massachusetts\, Ann pursued a career as a nurse and graduated from Fitchburg State College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. She primarily worked in various ICUs for 30 years. Showing dedication to her area of expertise\, she earned both her adult Critical Care RN and Cardiac Surgery specialty certificates. \nSeeking challenges outside of the workplace\, Ann obtained her private and commercial pilot licenses\, in both single and multiengine airplanes. \nPresently keeping her feet on the ground\, she travels\, hikes\, and climbs mountains whenever possible. Conquering all 48 summits in the White Mountains of NH which are above 4000 feet in elevation\, she is a member of the AMC’s 4000-Footer club. Photography\, birding\, and cooking are her other favorite hobbies. \n \nAnn currently lives in Rhode Island with her husband\, Wayne\, and her rescue dog. SUMMARY:Book Release Party for "Every Shade of Me" by Alec John Belle
DESCRIPTION:“Everyone is made up of colors. I just have a little more.” Grayson has always been different. From the time he started truly understanding what emotions were\, he knew that something about him was special. It wasn’t until he turned eighteen that he realized what he was. An empath. \nBeing an empath hasn’t come without cost. While Grayson is always told it’s a gift\, the overwhelming wave of emotions is starting to ruin his life. Between starting his first year of college\, living by himself\, and making new friends\, he fears getting close to anyone. As he starts to fall in love with a man he meets on the internet and grows closer to his new friends\, the worry strikes up again. Getting close means getting hurt. Getting close means having to feel. \nAnd as he’s learned from past experiences\, feelings always have a way of taking control. \nAbout the author: Alec John Belle (he/him) currently lives in Massachusetts with his Chihuahua\, Henry\, and his black cat\, Lizzie. When not writing\, Alec spends his time reading\, watching sitcoms and murder mysteries\, meditating\, praying at his altar\, reading tarot and oracle cards\, or listening to his vinyl record collection. His hope is to inspire and help as many people through their writing as possible. \nThe event is free and open to the public. Signed copies of the book will be available for purchase.

SUMMARY:Searching For Atticus book talk & signing with Janice Harvey
DESCRIPTION:Molly Medavoy is having a hard time remembering she’s a kid since her father Frank took off on an “extended tour of the Southwest” that never ends. Life with her mother Twig and her quirky little sister Arlene is no picnic. Twig spends most of her days exploring ways to lose weight\, while Arlene lines up cold cuts on the linoleum floor. Molly digs deeper into the books she borrows from the library\, looking for some answers\, wondering if a dad like Atticus Finch really exists. No one pays much attention to Molly – no one but Uncle Timmy\, the long-lost Medavoy who shows up on the front stoop. \nIt’s up to Molly to figure things out for herself as she watches the world spin\, from November of 1963 until that tumultuous decade comes to an end. For Molly\, the search for an Atticus of her own unearths a few secrets better left buried. \nAbout the Author: \nSince 1995\, Janice Harvey has been the lead columnist for the independent newspaper Worcester Magazine\, winning numerous awards for excellence in humor\, and serious column writing and reporting\, from the New England Better Newspaper Association. In 2012\, Harvey published a collection of her favorite columns for local readers to enjoy. Harvey recently retired after 30 years in public education and lives in Massachusetts\, surrounded by kids and grandkids\, while working on a second novel set in her beloved city of Worcester.

SUMMARY:A Life Worth Saving book release with Corrine James
DESCRIPTION:This is a story of one who was lost but now has been found. A story of redemption\, new life in Christ\, and a heavenly Father that was ever present and ever pursuing His wayward daughter. A Father that would never leave nor forsake her.\n \nThis is a story of everlasting love\, forgiveness\, and grace. The Lord began calling me to write my story\, my testimony\, about fifteen years ago. There was a testimony inside that He wanted me to share\, that I needed to share.\n \nOut of that calling\, A Life Worth Saving was birthed.\nIt’s about redeeming love\, restored relationships\, and freedom that only comes through Christ. It’s about my journey toward Christ\, one that has taken me from sadness to joy\, hopelessness to redeemed\, confusion to truth\, and fear to faith.\n \nSigned copies will be available for purchase.

SUMMARY:A Feast of Losses by Judith Ferrara Book Release & Signing
DESCRIPTION:A Feast of Losses documents and celebrates the life of Yetta Dine\, the poet Stanley Kunitz’s mother\, a fierce\, loving\, magnificent woman truly worthy of our attention. Kunitz often remarked that a poet makes a myth of his life as a way of traveling the labyrinth of memory and experience to transformation. Close readers of Kunitz’s luminous poems will\, in reading this book\, gain a sense of the layers of life from which his myths emerged.\n—Marie Howe\, author of four books of poetry\, the most recent\, Magdalene \nJoin us for this free event. Signed books will be available for purchase. \nPerhaps the most enduring poet of his generation\, Stanley Kunitz once observed that “poetry is for the sake of the life.” Based on his mother’s recently recovered memoir\, diary and letters\, Judith Ferrara’s A Feast of Losses offers fresh and intimate insights into both her own and her son’s lives. \nYetta Dine emigrated from Lithuania to New York’s Lower East Side in 1890 and learned the garment trade before moving to Worcester\, Massachusetts\, in 1893 to marry Solomon Kunitz. Readers will have an unprecedented opportunity to hear Yetta’s own voice\, understand her story and explore the influence she had on Stanley Kunitz as a poet and a person. \nWho was this woman\, immortalized as the mother in “The Portrait” who “slapped me hard” when Stanley found his dead father’s portrait in the attic? Yetta’s original papers and the striking details of her life have emerged against all odds—a story within a story. \n  \n \n  \nJudith Ferrara \, Ph.D.\, holds degrees from the University of New Hampshire\, Fitchburg State University and the State University College at Buffalo. Her publications in the field of education include Peer Mediation: Finding a Way to Care (Stenhouse Publishers). Her poems\, essays and artwork have appeared in three collections and in journals. She received a Worcester Cultural Commission/Massachusetts Cultural Council Creative Arts Fellowship in 2003. In 2018\, she received the Stanley Kunitz Medal from the Worcester County Poetry Association.  Ferrara lives in Worcester\, Massachusetts\, with her husband John Gaumond.

SUMMARY:Suspense Author Stephen Amidon visit
DESCRIPTION:As part of our 28th Anniversary celebration\, we are excited to be hosting national suspense author Stephen Amidon! He will be signing and discussing his latest novel Locust Lane\, published by Celedon Books in January 2023. The event is free and open to the public and signed copies of Locust Lane\, as well as his other books\, will be available for purchase. \nCall 508-949-6232 for more information or email deb@bookloversgourmet.com. \nFor fans of Mystic River by Dennis Lehane and Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng\, Stephen Amidon’s Locust Lane is a taut and utterly propulsive story about the search for justice and the fault lines of power and influence in a seemingly idyllic town. Can anyone be trusted? \nOn the surface\, Emerson\, Massachusetts\, is just like any other affluent New England suburb. But when a young woman is found dead in the nicest part of town\, the powerful neighbors close ranks to keep their families safe. In this searing novel\, Eden Perry’s death kicks off an investigation into the three teenagers who were partying with her that night\, each a suspect. Hannah\, a sweet girl with an unstable history. Jack\, the popular kid with a mean streak. Christopher\, an outsider desperate to fit in. Their parents\, each with motivations of their own\, only complicate the picture: they will do anything to protect their children\, even at the others’ expense. \nWith a brilliantly woven\, intricately crafted plot that gathers momentum on every page\, this is superb storytelling told in terse prose—a dynamic read that is both intensely gripping and deeply affecting. \nSTEPHEN AMIDON was born in Chicago and grew up on the East Coast. He lived in London for twelve years before returning to the United States in 1999. He now lives in Massachusetts and Torino\, Italy. His books have been published in sixteen countries and include two works of non fiction\, a collection of short stories\, and seven novels\, including Human Capital\, adapted as a film directed by Marc Meyers in 2019\, and Security\, also adapted as a film and released by Netflix in summer 2021.
