You will be engrossed in the extraordinary situations Ann encountered. Determine for yourself if being a nurse was ever fun. \n  \nAbout the author: Raised in South Deerfield\, Massachusetts\, Ann pursued a career as a nurse and graduated from Fitchburg State College with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. She primarily worked in ICUs for thirty-two years. Showing dedication to her area of expertise\, she earned both her adult critical care RN and cardiac surgery specialty certificates. \nSeeking challenges outside of the workplace\, she obtained her private and commercial pilot licenses\, in both single and multiengine airplanes. \nPresently keeping her feet on the ground\, she travels\, hikes\, and climbs mountains whenever possible. She conquered all forty-eight summits in the White Mountains of New Hampshire that are above four thousand feet in elevation. Photography\, birding\, and cooking are her other favorite hobbies. \nHer debut memoir\, When Being a Nurse Was Fun: Tales from My Life as a Nurse was published in 2023. SUMMARY:Author Appearance & Signing with Sarah Blanchard
DESCRIPTION:We invite you to a book signing and talk with Sarah Blanchard\, author of the psychological thriller Drawn from Life. \nThis event is free and open to the public. Signed copies will be available for purchase. For more information call 508-949-6232. \nIn her debut novel\, writer Sarah P. Blanchard tackles complex themes of betrayal\, abandonment\, guilt\, and the destructive power of lies. She has always been drawn toward flawed\, compassionate characters who believe they must battle their demons alone; and complex antagonists who feel they have nothing to lose. She found the spark for her her psychological suspense story DRAWN FROM LIFE in an article in The New Yorker\, “The Sorrow and Shame of the Accidental Killer” (Alice Gregory\, September 11\, 2017). Wanting to learn more about how an ordinary person might learn to live with—or try to move past—a deep moral injury\, Blanchard dug deeper into the traumas people experience when they act\, or fail to act\, in a way that violates their moral compass. In DRAWN FROM LIFE\, Blanchard introduces readers to a troubled family and the unbalanced relationship between two cousins—one an untrustworthy bully\, the other a compassionate target who carries an undeserved burden of guilt.  \n  \nA Connecticut native\, Sarah P. Blanchard graduated from the University of Connecticut with a B.A. in literature\, and from Nichols College in Dudley\, MA with an M.B.A. in marketing. Her short stories\, poems\, and essays have been widely published in magazines and literary journals. She was a finalist for the 2024 Porch Prize for Fiction and the 2021 Doris Betts Fiction Prize. Her story collection PLAYING CHESS WITH BULLS was published in December 2023.  \nSarah taught English and communications for five years at the University of Hawaii-Hilo\, and two semesters of fiction writing at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of North Carolina-Asheville. She has led many workshops in creative writing while also working as a magazine editor\, radio news reporter\, textbook editor\, and talk show host.

SUMMARY:Meet & Greet with Author R. F. Mineo
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a meet & greet with local author R. F. Mineo\, who will discuss and sign copies of his suspense novels Fatal Conspiracies and Cargill Falls: The Mill Conspiracy. \nAbout Fatal Conspiracies: Greed! Envy! Revenge! Conspiracy! Murder!\nR. F. Mineo’s Fatal Conspiracies is a prescription for an exciting literary ride. It has more than the required active ingredients for intrigue\, suspense\, and surprise. Mineo’s debut novel is a thrilling page-turner. Follow his characters as some take unimaginable risks and others try to find justice for those wronged. One slip or one erroneous move\, and medicine turns to poison. And for some\, that will mean falling victim to the ultimate – the fatal – conspiracies.\nMineo takes a deep dive into the world of big Pharma—the therapies\, the drive for more profits\, and the people\, scientists\, and executives who get those prescription tablets to your local pharmacy. \n  \nAbout Cargill Falls: A tale of greed and betrayal unfolds in the middle of an old mill’s renovation. The discovery of hidden Civil War treasure ignites a deadly game of power\, where trust is a liability\, and every handshake hides a betrayal. As the body count rises\, the Connecticut State Police find themselves outmaneuvered at every turn. The killer\, a ghost in the night\, remains elusive\, her motives as hidden as the treasure itself. \nR F. Mineo has had thrilling mysteries on his mind for years. Consistent encouragement from friends and family—and the freedom that retirement affords—catalyzed him to act. To put pen to paper! And so\, a new mystery novelist was empowered. \nRich’s business career has spanned over three decades\, including a prominent role at a large corporation in the Medical Diagnostic and Pharmaceutical business units. What’s more\, Rich has been the Managing Partner of a small investment bank firm and operated an antiques business. Rich was born in Scranton\, Pennsylvania\, and graduated from Penn State University.  \nRich served as head of the State of Connecticut Fundraiser for the Special Olympics. His other philanthropy includes volunteering at a nearby hospital and the local YMCA. When he’s not writing\, Rich enjoys biking\, bowling\, and spending time with his two adult children\, three grandchildren\, and his wife of 57 years\, Wanda.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a Book Signing & Open Mic with Alan Ira Gordon featuring “Pittsburgh and Other Poems”. \nTo sign up for the Open Mic portion of the event\, hosted by Paul Szlosek\, please call 508-949-6232 or email deb@bookloversgourmet.com. Space is limited. \nAbout the book: Sometimes a sense of place is easy to identify and understand. In those instances\, it can be a physical city\, town\, neighborhood or just a piece of property. Other times it can be a point in time\, either past\, present or future. And in yet other instances it can be a more exotic or alien sense of place\, perhaps intergalactic\, or multi-universe\, even an alternate reality version of a well-known place and time\, existing at a quantum point or merely within the minds of writers and readers. \nAll of the poems in this book explore in poetic form various ideas of sense of place\, whether physical locations\, points in time or ideas of place that could only exist (for now\, at least) within the creative realms of science fiction\, fantasy and/or horror. \nAlan Ira Gordon is an urban planning professor at Worcester State University. His poetry publications include Analog Magazine and The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction and he’s a frequent contributor to Star*Line\, the quarterly journal of the Science Fiction & Fantasy Poetry Association (SFPA). Alan’s poetry has received eight Rhysling Award nominations\, two Dwarf Star Award nominations and an Analog Magazine year’s best nomination (Second Place Award). He has three published poetry collections\, Planet Hunter\, The Doggo Book and the just-released Pittsburgh & Other Poems (Hiraeth Books). Planet Hunter was nominated for the SFPA Elgin Award. \nAlan guest-edited Issue #24 of Eye To The Telescope\, the on-line publication of the Science Fiction & Fantasy Poetry Association (SFPA). His poetry\, short stories and articles have been published in various genre magazines and anthologies\, a list of which can be found on his website at www.alaniragordon.com.

Unfortunately that’s not an excuse she can give fae lord Desmond when she gets caught. Because Erin is a princess too\, and whatever schemes Desmond has\, Erin wants no part of them. Instead\, she tells him she’s a simple war nurse\, and offers no excuse at all.Desmond can’t have humans wandering in and out of his castle\, not when the Fae’s presence in Erdhea must remain hidden. He needs to know how and why Erin sneaked in. But before long\, his concerns about Erin are blooming into interest\, then fascination\, then something else altogether. Under the eye of a lovelorn fae lord\, can Erin keep her secrets? Will she even want to?\n \n \nCurtis K. Corey has always had an active imagination. It was not until later in life that he found an outlet for his imagination. He loves bringing his characters to life through his writing and illustrations. Sharing them with children of all ages has become one of his greatest joys.Currently Curtis has three children’s chapter books and six illustrated children’s books published with many more in the works.\nThe Fae of Woodstock ValleyThe Fae of Asteria lived a peaceful life in tune with nature. SUMMARY:Double Poetry Event featuring Curt Curtin and John Gaumond
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to present a Double Poetry Event featuring Curt Curtin and John Gaumond\, both accomplished Worcester area poets with newly released books. \nThe reading and signing will be followed by an Open Mic hosted by Paul Szlosek. \nTo sign up to read for the Open Mic portion\, please email deb@bookloversgourmet.com or call 508-949-6232. \nThe event is free and open to the public. Signed books will be available for purchase. \n  \nCurt Curtin is a lifelong poet who has published six poetry collections: four for adults\, one for young adults\, and one for young children. He’s also had many individual poems published in anthologies\, journals\, and three chapbooks and has twice been nominated twice for a Pushcart prize. In 2010 he received the first Frank O’Hara Poetry award from the Worcester County Poetry Association\, and in 2019 he won second place in the annual contest of the Connecticut Poetry Society. In 2023 Curt won grants from both the Worcester Arts Council and the Mass Cultural Council to support his work. \nCurt taught college English and creative writing for 20 years at Westfield State College\, MA\, following several years teaching younger students. He has been a featured reader in many poetry venues in Massachusetts and New Hampshire\, and twice in Ireland. Updates on his poetry can be found at www.curtcurtinpoet.com. \nThis reading will feature poems from Curt’s latest collection\, In Our Name.  The title comes from a poem entitled\, “Possibility” which opens: “In our name\, We\, the state\, embrace war without a true account of outcomes\, naming only the sins of enemies\, hiding our gains behind a wall of flags.” The collection explores themes of violence\, human suffering and the predatory forces of nature. While sometimes difficult and painful to read\, the poems offer hope for humanity—encouraging readers to bear witness\, become “compassionately wise\,” and “set aside our ancient retributions.” \n  \nJohn Gaumond of Worcester\, Massachusetts is a poet\, photographer\, gardener\, and professor emeritus at Fitchburg State University. He received the Jacob Knight Poetry Award in 2006. His poems have been published in numerous journals\, including Poets in the Galleries\, The Connecticut River Review\, Sahara\, Worcester Magazine\, The Longfellow Society Journal\, The Leaflet\, The Lancaster Times\, The Issue\, Ballard Street Poetry Journal\, The Worcester Telegram and The Worcester Review. His photographs have appeared in The Worcester Review\, Diner\, Ballard Street Poetry Journal\, The River Valley Current\, the Worcester Telegram and Worcester Magazine. \n“In his debut poetry collection\, Finding the Words\, John Gaumond stands in the rubble of his ruminations with his talents as a deft wordsmith. His utilization of rhyme and intellect combine to illuminate his subjects\, enabling readers to see the world in extraordinary ways. The book portrays mysterious and tragic occurrences of his youth which required assuming responsibilities of adulthood. A noble dignity and sobering acceptance are revealed to surmount life’s challenges. His ekphrastic poems possess a deep wonder and imagination. From tender moments recalling Marilyn Monroe’s smile\, to the implications of abandoning the penny\, this book fills me with admiration and respect.” \n     Review by bg Thurston

SUMMARY:World War II Massachusetts Book Talk with James Parr
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this free event! Signed copies of the book will be available for purchase. \nOver 500\,000 Massachusetts residents answered the call to military duty in the Second World War\, while the rest of the state’s citizens fought the war on the home front. Everyone in the family\, including pets\, found creative and essential ways to contribute. \nThousands worked in factories\, volunteered for Civil Defense\, watched for enemy aircraft\, and took part in salvage collections and bond drives\, all while dealing with rationing\, blackouts\, rumors and a host of other wartime inconveniences. And while thousands of service members left to fight overseas\, the Bay State also welcomed thousands more to serve on its military bases that were such an important part of our nation’s defense. \nAuthor James Parr reveals the stories of these brave and dedicated citizens–from the famous to the ordinary–as they faced wartime challenges. \nJames L. Parr taught elementary school for thirty-four years before retiring in June 2022. He is a longtime volunteer at several local historical organizations and community theater groups. This is Jim’s fourth book for The History Press

SUMMARY:"When Being a Nurse Was Fun: Tales From My Life as a Nurse"\, with Author Ann Watt
DESCRIPTION:Meet author Ann Watt\, whose debut book is a nursing memoir titled\, “When Being a Nurse Was Fun: Tales From My Life as a Nurse”. \nThis book signing & presentation is free to attend and signed books will be available for purchase. For more information or to RSVP\, call 508-949-6232 or email deb@bookloversgourmet.com. Ann lived in Worcester for a few years and was employed by UMass/Memorial at the University campus. The book starts with a few stories about her nursing training and employment at UMass. \nAbout the book: Did you ever wonder what happens in an ICU at night? Is being a nurse in a hospital like what you see on TV or on the internet? \nBesides taking excellent care of their patients\, nurses enjoyed humor at work before the Covid pandemic. Playing jokes on each other or finding hilarity in absurd situations\, we devised ways to amuse ourselves while performing our duties.\nGlimpse into the medical career of someone who dares to say life as a nurse used to be fun. Follow my journey from being a student nurse to a critical care RN with 30 years of experience. \nRelive with me both the frustrations and camaraderie that I encountered as an RN. Filled with true tales from my life both in and out of the hospital\, “When Being a Nurse Was Fun” will cause you to laugh\, and may also make you cry. \nAbout the Author: Raised in South Deerfield\, Massachusetts\, Ann pursued a career as a nurse and graduated from Fitchburg State College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. She primarily worked in various ICUs for 30 years. Showing dedication to her area of expertise\, she earned both her adult Critical Care RN and Cardiac Surgery specialty certificates. \nSeeking challenges outside of the workplace\, Ann obtained her private and commercial pilot licenses\, in both single and multiengine airplanes. \nPresently keeping her feet on the ground\, she travels\, hikes\, and climbs mountains whenever possible. Conquering all 48 summits in the White Mountains of NH which are above 4000 feet in elevation\, she is a member of the AMC’s 4000-Footer club. Photography\, birding\, and cooking are her other favorite hobbies. \n \nAnn currently lives in Rhode Island with her husband\, Wayne\, and her rescue dog. SUMMARY:Book Release Party for "Every Shade of Me" by Alec John Belle
DESCRIPTION:“Everyone is made up of colors. I just have a little more.” Grayson has always been different. From the time he started truly understanding what emotions were\, he knew that something about him was special. It wasn’t until he turned eighteen that he realized what he was. An empath. \nBeing an empath hasn’t come without cost. While Grayson is always told it’s a gift\, the overwhelming wave of emotions is starting to ruin his life. Between starting his first year of college\, living by himself\, and making new friends\, he fears getting close to anyone. As he starts to fall in love with a man he meets on the internet and grows closer to his new friends\, the worry strikes up again. Getting close means getting hurt. Getting close means having to feel. \nAnd as he’s learned from past experiences\, feelings always have a way of taking control. \nAbout the author: Alec John Belle (he/him) currently lives in Massachusetts with his Chihuahua\, Henry\, and his black cat\, Lizzie. When not writing\, Alec spends his time reading\, watching sitcoms and murder mysteries\, meditating\, praying at his altar\, reading tarot and oracle cards\, or listening to his vinyl record collection. His hope is to inspire and help as many people through their writing as possible. \nThe event is free and open to the public. Signed copies of the book will be available for purchase.
